Dean Rockwell

Retiring in 2002, after teaching high school biology for 32 years, Dean developed an equally satisfying second carrier as a potter and ceramic artist. Many of his pieces exhibit the influence of biology as twisted by his keen sense of humor. He was juried in as an Illinois Artisan with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources in 2005.

Since then his work has been accepted in both regional and nationally juried art shows including: 64Arts - Buchanan Center for the Arts, the 30th and 35th Annual Rock Island Fine Arts Exhibition, and the 55th Annual Quad-State Juried Art Exhibition.

Dean has studied with ceramists: Leroy Moffett, Sunkoo Yuh, Vince Palacios, and Shawn Spangler.

His work can be found in galleries and shops throughout Illinois and Iowa as well as private and public collections, including the Western Illinois University Library.

“I prefer to create unique, one of a kind pieces. This gives the work a fresh and eclectic feel that reflects my love for fun, learning and experimentation.” Dean Rockwell
